Galvanized Steel Flat Bar, is a Q235B hot rolled, mild steel bar that has been hot dipped in a zinc rich galvanizing process. Galvanized flat is a lower cost alternative to stainless steel to achieve rust free protection for up to 30 years, while maintaining comparable strength with a durable hard surface coating. Metals Depot stocks many sizes in pre-cut lengths, full mill lengths or we can hot dip virtually any size and quantity required for your welding or construction project.

Main application: flat steel can be used for making hoop iron, tools and mechanical parts, and used for building structure parts and escalators.

Specifications - A36 Hot Rolled, G90 Galvanized coating.
Surface Finish - slightly shiny silver color, grainy and spackled surface
Mechanical Properties - Yield = 36K, Tensile = 58-80K

Traditional Flat Bar is a hot rolled lintel used to support brickwork over clear openings including windows & doors.

Control Joints:
Where control joints are used as a required structural element, loading of the lintel should be reduced by one third.
Propping:
For best results, all lintels must be propped before bricklaying. Props must be no further than 1.2m apart and must remain in place until the mortar has fully cured

Galvanized flats can be cut, machined or welded by common methods used for regular steel, but adequate ventilation should be used to avoid inhalation of fumes when heated. Saw cut ends of our pre-cut lengths are not galvanized and should be treated with a cold galvanizing compound to maintain protection once your project is complete. Any holes drilled or welded areas should also be treated.
